ENLISTED: 25 November, 1862, at Peach Orchard, Lawrence County, Kentucky.
MILITARY DATA: Detached service May and June, 1864. He wrote a report on October 29, 1864, from the 39th’s camp at Lexington, Kentucky, in which he reported to Capt J. S. Bratten that 91 men under his command, as ordered by civil and military authorities from Frankfort, persued a guerrilla force, commanded by John Marshal, which robbed, “the loyal men of Peak’s Mill in Franklin Co., KY, and murdered Mr. Robert Graham in the presence of his family. The murderer was Bayless Tackett, Jr., of Owen Co., KY. I pursued them to Harmony in Owen Co. and could not find there whereabouts as they had taken to the bushes. In consequence of the worn out condition of the horses, I abandoned the pursuit and returned to this place the evening of the 28th.”
