We arrived in Estes Park early. Fortunately, the folks at McGregor Mountain Lodge
had our place ready for us.
We had enough time to unpack and set up when Betsie and her fiance Jason arrived.
After hugs and catching up on news, Jason, Betsie, Andy, Mike and I decided to start working
on our hiking legs and headed for Deer Mountain. Deer Mountain is only a six mile round trip with a little over a 1,000' elevation gain, but it's a pretty good hike for the first day on the trail. It felt good to be back on the trail again.
Andy and Mike cruised to the top without even breaking a sweat.
Jason, Andy and Mike took a different route down, while Betsie and I back tracked to the car. On the way down, we ran into Jodi and Bob's wedding party. They had just gotten married on the slopes of Deer Mountain with Long's Peak for a backdrop.
Our friends Jim, Bev and their daughter Heidi arrived that night. Jim came out to fly fish for trout, Bev to do some serious relaxing, and Heidi wasn't sure what to expect. Jim caught his fish, Bev relaxed, and Heidi wound up doing some serious hiking.
