Day 3

Hitting The Peaks

(Click on the small images to get the full sized picture.)

We finally got down to some serious hiking on our third day. Flo and I had done Flattop and Hallett before but the others hadn't. It was a good warm up for our attempt at Long's later in the week.

Flattop is actually a harder hike than than the hike to the Boulderfield.
The trail starts with a series of seemingly endless switchbacks.

One of the switchbacks ends with a view down to Dream Lake. A little bit up the trail you get a view down to Emerald Lake, a thousand feet below.

Flattop lives up to it's name. It's hard to find the actual high point.

Andy and Mike kept going up to Hallett Peak.

I'd been to Hallett, so I turned north to Notchtop Mountain. Notchtop is a little lower than Flattop. The hard part is regaining the elevation back to Flattop.

Three major trails meet on Flattop.
