Day 5

Fern and Spruce Lakes

We were planning to do Long's Peak the next day so we wanted a fairly easy hike. Fern Lake is only 3.8 miles from the Fern Lake Trailhead and Spruce is 4.6.

The trail is flat and fairly boring at first, with only the Big Thomspon River providing much interest. After 1.7 miles you come to a bridge over the Big Thompson at The Pool.

An easy mile past the Pool takes you to Fern Falls.

Jim's goal on the trip was to catch trout while fly fishing. He reached his goal at Fern Lake.

Alli, Heidi and I continued up the trail to Spruce Lake. Jim should have come with us. The was an insect hatch going on, and the trout were literally jumping all over the lake.
I was able to capture a few splashes.
