March 2, 1998 Subject: Me Again G'day, I must say, I was sad to leave. The tears were flowing, but Ian just wouldn't stop. Well, okay, Ian's in Melbourne and it was time for me to journey to the second leg of my trip. This morning I hopped a cab to the airport, said goodbye to the lovely scenery that is Bondi Beach (and the sand and ocean too), and left, on a jet plane up to North Queensland to Cairns. It's a small town situated between the Great Barrier Reef (not actually in the water), and a tropical rainforest. It's the hub for many places and activities. Immediately after my arrival, I made my way to Capt. Cook's Hostel and booked a few tours to bide my time in this region. Tomorrow I leave for a Waterfall, Rainforest, and Tableland tour, which lasts three days. Saturday, I get up at the crack of dawn to live on a small ship swabbing the decks and getting in some great dives. I will be in one site where I'll get to feed the reef sharks (Don't worry mom, I'll wear a mesh wetsuit). I'll be on the boat for 2-days/1 night and getting in about 7 dives including a night dive. Then on Monday, I'm off for a 3-day/2-night jaunt up to Mossman, Daintree, and Cape Tribulation. It's supposed to be amazing. I'm gonna do some sea kayaking, where they get you to where a "jellyfish sting proof suit". Don't know what that looks like, but I doubt it'll help my social life. Again, don't worry mom, I won't taunt the jellyfish. Just to backtrack for a second, Savannah, Ian, and I went to Coogee Beach for dinner the other night. I did it, I tried the kangaroo. Of course I was too chicken to order it myself and just mooched a fillet off of Savannah's plate, but li'l roo was pretty good. Kind of ironic 'cause yesterday I was feeding the kangaroos in a wildlife park and just the night before, I was feeding on one. Isn't it ironic... don't ya think? That's all for now folks, I'll probably continue the trip report sometime next week. Crocodile Rob PS - Chris, could you forward this and my previous letters to Ian. I got his email address wrong.
