Ancestors of Emmor Bonsall Maris

Notes

8. David Maris

David and Sarah went, with all their children except son Curtis, to Belmont OH in 1814. Five of sons were adult by then. Therefore, David's bp must be
Phila area of Penna, rather than Oh.

9. Sarah Rachel Fawkes

It was said of Sarah that she was a "wise and judicious woman." Her husband
David, having been surrounded by staunch Quakers his whole life, apparently
felt drawn to his indulgence. Our Maris record says of David that he "held
chronic consultation with his cups and his comrades," neglecting to some extent his obligations as husband and father. Sarah was praised by those who knew her. She felt she had to "put out her sons to service under indenture in good homes, and afterward apprentic[ed] . . . them to trades."
