Il Primo elicottero di Produzione della Marina Militare Italiana (M.M.I.01) ha fatto il suo primo volo il 4 Ottobre 1999 ed è stato presentato ufficialmente alla Stampa il 6 Dicembre 1999 presso gli stabilimenti della Ditta Agusta.
La consegna alla Marina Militare è prevista nell'autunno 2000.
Il Governo italiano ha firmato un contratto per l'approvigionamento di 16 elicotteri EH101 che saranno consegnati alla M.M.I. nelle seguenti versioni:
8 anti-nave ed anti-sommergibile;
4 per la scoperta aerea;
4 Utility.

The first Italian Navy production helicopter (M.M.I. 01) was first flown on the 4th October 1999 and it has been officially presented to the Press on the 6th December 1999 at the Agusta factory.
The delivery to Italian Navy is foreseen in Autumn 2000.
The italian Government has signed a contract to procure 16 EH101 helicopters that will be delivered to Italian Navy in the following variant:
8 anti-surface and anti-submarine;
4 aircrafts aerly warning (AEW) ;
4 Utility.

La prima consegna alla Marina Militare Italiana degli otto EH101 nel ruolo antisommergibile/antinave è prevista a settembre 2000. Questo elicottero rappresenta la piattaforma ideale per la protezione delle unità navali dai sommergibili moderni. Operando autonomamente o in cooperazione con altre unità navali, l’EH101 della Marina Militare può localizzare, classificare e distruggere bersagli subacquei. L’elicottero, capace di ripiegare le pale del rotore principale e la parte terminale della trave di coda, è progettato per operare, anche in condizioni atmosferiche avverse, da navi del tipo fregata o caccia e dalle basi a terra. L’avionica dell’EH101 include una piattaforma inerziale, GPS, Doppler, Tacan, Sonar, Radar, ESM, Data Link. Il velivolo è anche predisposto per operare con NVG. L’EH101 potrà lanciare due missili anti-nave e quattro siluri anti-sommergibile. La Marina Italiana sarà la prima ad utilizzare l’EH101 nella versione AEW in ruolo di scoperta aerea. |

First delivery of the eight ASW/ASVW EH101 to the Italian Navy will commence in September 2000. The ASW/ASVW variant is the ideal platform to protect shipping from modern submarines. Operating autonomously or in concert with frigates Italian Navy EH101 can locate, classify and destroy the underwater intruders. With its main rotor and tail boom automatic folding system, the Italian Navy’s EH101 will be capable of operating from frigates as small as 3500 tonnes and shore bases in adverse weather conditions. Avionic will include inertial reference unit, GPS, Doppler, Tacan, Sonar, Radar, ESM, Data Link. The helicopter has the provision to operate with NVG as well. A range of modern weapon system include two air-to-surface missiles for ASVW missions and four torpedoes for ASW engagements.
The Italian Navy is the first customer to select the EH 101 configured in the role of Airborne Early Warning.
