K. Ramu Ramu is Mari's brother. He works as an autorickshaw driver. That is an autorickshaw behind him. It seats two but we can fit at least 8 passengers inside. He is useful since he will make sure you don't get into trouble. He helps you find things. And... he wouldn't charge you more than three times the normal rate. Also he also asks you to pay for the gas. Other drivers don't. But he also keeps a very close eye on the kids when they travel with you so they don't run amuck. Most helpful. Since there are no great sights in Madras, he keeps wanting to take you to the Snake Park. Don't! A religious man, he goes on pilgrimages to a holy mountain in Kerla. In this picture, he wears a lingee which Kumar will show you how to buy, get sewn, and wear. |
Ramu's wife, sister-in-law and son. The head piece is flowers that all the women like to wear. On every street corner is a flower seller with the flowers specially for women to wear in their hair. |

A Typical Day for Ramu's wife keeps busy while Ramu is working... or while he is at the movies. She is also kept pregnant, popping out the required 6 children which will guarantee her children will be poor as well. This street is also were they sleep. |
Places to See Ramu will take me to places that other taxi drivers will not go. Autorickshaws make their money by setting a fixed price for a trip and getting there as fast as possible. Or by using the meter and driving the long way as fast as possible. With Ramu, I can stop and look at things. Here we are outside of the film production offices of the motion picture studio which made the movie "Hey!Ram". I took the kids with me as helpers. Then we went shopping. |
