WAS THE CROSS JUST A STRAIGHT POLE OR DID IT HAVE A CROSSBAR? By William B. Chalfant |
The
argument about whether the cross has a crossbar or not is rather
“petty”, don’t you think? William Smith’s Bible Dictionary,
which is a reputable dictionary, says that the Lord was crucified upon a
Latin cross (stauros, may mean “stake” or “pole”, but there is
no law that says this stake or pole did not have a crossbar), which had
a crossbar and was in the shape of a “t” with an upright above the
crossbar upon which the placard was placed. I do not see the big
argument on this. One cannot prove that the Romans did not use a cross
with a crossbar by simply referring to the meaning of stauros as
“stake” or “pole”, since a cross with a crossbar has to contain
a stake or a pole as a part of its makeup! I DO NOTE THIS. In John
20:25, Thomas said, “Except I shall see in his hands the PRINT OF THE
NAILS (plural)”. Thomas was indicating that at least TWO NAILS were
used in his hands (indicating a nail in each hand and thus indicating a
CROSSBAR, since one nail would be sufficient for the Lord’s two hands
held together on a single pole, but one nail would not be sufficient for
a hand held out on each side of the crossbar. I believe I would do a little more research on the use of Roman crosses before I staked everything on a translation of the Greek word stauros.
WAS
THE SAVIOR BURIED ON WEDNESDAY OR ON FRIDAY?
The
Savior was buried at sundown on Wednesday, since Thursday, which
actually started at sundown was a high sabbath (John 19.31), and they
were anxious to get Him in the grave before it began. He remained three
full days and three full nights in the grave. He came out of the grave
at sundown on Saturday, just as the first day of the week (Sunday) was
starting. The House of Yahweh should really be careful on who they
condemn concerning this matter. Not all of us are stupid! You can’t go
in the grave on Friday and rise on Sunday and be in the grave three full
days and three nights! Have you
been baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ as the scriptures teach? (Acts
2:38). Have you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, speaking in
tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance? (Acts 2:4). That is the New
Birth experience. Do you know that Jesus Christ (Yahshua, as you call
Him) is actually God the Father manifest in the flesh? There are not
Three Divine Persons in the Godhead, but all the fullness of the Godhead
dwells in Jesus bodily? (Colossian 2:9). Sincerely, WILLIAM
B. CHALFANT
