This lightning detection system is maintained by a private hobbyist. The system uses a single directional antenna to determine strike direction, and signal strength to determine distance. This is not as accurate as a multi-antenna system which can triangulate strikes, but is a good approximation. Be aware that sometimes local interference can produce false strike reports. However, every effort is made to minimize errors.
