25: Judeo-Christian Values In Today's Society
By Robert C. Moore
Part 2 (Schools & Society)
November 7, 1991
In part 1, I discussed how TV and the media have taken God out of movies, and how TV
moguls have supported their beliefs. This time, we look at schools and society in general.
In the 1960's prayer was taking out of public schools. The belief was that schools should not force religion on the children. Today a very huge battle is being waged as prayer in school is again the main subject of controversy. This time it is over a priest saying a prayer on commencement for high school students. It was something the school had always done. It was one of the parents who asked to have the prayer removed. Now this case is in front of the Supreme Court, and the decision is not expected until July 1992. This could be the forerunner for cases to follow.
Often, our children get a sense that on one hand America believes in God, because it is printed on the currency. Yet, the other hand saying that society wants nothing to do with God. Often, our children fall into the hands of occult worshipers, and we may not even be aware of it. Most people do not feel shocked, but rather they feel as if nothing is wrong.
Today, children are being taught about the occult, in some not-so-obvious ways:
out-of-body experiences, witchcraft, voodoo. Some of this material is usually read in
school books and in school libraries. Most of the time, we are not aware of its influence.
For example some Christian schools even celebrate Halloween. Halloween is supposed to be
All Hollow's Eve, but the emphasis in recent years has been that it is Satan's High Holy
Day. The issues currently being raised don't make people stop and wonder what they are
doing. A few months ago, 3 teenage kids were arrested in the Midwest for praying around
the flagpole. It was a National Prayer Around The Pole Day. Many parents, whose
kids were arrested, were shocked. The school board said that "their activity"
was causing a disturbance. The American Union For Civil Liberty, the Christian
Broadcasting Network aka 700 Club, jumped in. Eventually the school board apologized and
dropped all charges.
The problem with society has been a two-fold issue:
1) How do we raise Christian in a time where Christianity is being mocked and destroyed?
2) How do we as parents prevent our children from having occult experiences being
thrown into their world?
The answer, I believe, is not easy. It has to do with the parents. The willingness to raise children to be responsible people. To make parents aware of what is going on around them, and to turn their attention to God. Many people are simply not educated to see that certain things, like Halloween and astrology, have a evil purpose under the disguise of harmless fun. I am afraid that our children will be lost to Satan. To what Satan will do. Satan uses a lot of masks to hide his true face. He makes things like the occult appear good and wholesome. Unfortunately, when you talk to many of these people, they all say the same thing. Things Do Not Appear As They Seem To Be. To many of them getting to know the Lord was the only real answer to their life. The occult may have satisfied some of their initial urges, but eventually they all felt empty and lonely.
I remember one priest's sermon in which he told the congregation that God will find you. Whether you are a kid, a teenager, a middle aged or elderly, God will find you. I believe that all of us eventually face that decision, whether to accept His truth or reject it. I pray you will make the right decision.
