The Waiting
Stardate: 2411.4.2

There is no way that the future can be predicted. Instead, it reveals itself in what we do right now. We are in control of our own destinies, and we decide our own fate, and our judgment. There can be no other way.
Kero's diary dated May 21, 2409

The day came at last. Dr. Michaels was to leave to find a person who lived on Ebos. There they would find the answers to the starchild, and to the future of their world.

Before leaving, Dr. Michaels spoke to Dr. Lightspeed about his concerns. "If I don't return, give this to my wife." He was holding a small tape, with the label saying Dark Skies. "I know you won't understand, but trust me on this. It contains all the Empire's moves as foretold by Kero."

"I don't want you to leave me alone." She was almost in tears. For all the years they were together, this would be their first time away from each other for an extended period of time.

"Don't cry, my darling." He tried to reassure her. John put her arms around her, and kissed her, for what could be the last time.

Lord Garrison entered the room, stood at attention, awaiting the acknowledgment. Malcolm gave him the salute. "Congratulations on your crowning achievement. Soon, the troops will be ready for battle." Garrison prouded himself that the job took only half the time allotted. Still, he had his doubts. "I was wondering if you knew about the starchild latest developments?"

"No, but I've heard that Dr. Michaels is taking a crew of six to a far and distant planet. They're going to see a person named Merlin, who claims to know all about the legend. Let's hope they get there in time, before the bad stuff happens."

"Like what?"

"It's better that I don't spoil the fun. Besides, we still have the second part of our project to do." Malcolm turned his back on Garrison. Looking out among the stars in space, he reflected on his achievement, but there was still more to do.
