How wonderfully I capture thee in flat!
Fantastic, how thy shape doth fit my strokes!
I am not vain - to say such words as that
Must surely mean my labour thee invokes.
I love thee so that less than all is none,
But less than ever is there to perfect :
They are more like, each day, than that just gone ;
So ever more do they hold thy effect.
Almost could I to painted lips give kiss ;
Almost could eyes see in a third dimension.
What more is Art, than ecstasy of this?
Though errors are quite rife ‘mongst Glory’s mention,
Each time I trace thee, some of them I’d kill ;
When gone all, and beyond, I'll stop not till.

Steven in Watercolour

My second ever watercolour painting of Steven and much more agreeable than my first. I like the free nature of watercolour and the way the lines fly. I do not, however, like the colour tones (they're too dull) and prefer the colours of acrylic. I may try some more watercolours with a brighter set of colours. His mouth is a little wrong but I captured my intention of portraying light/highlights/etc.
I love the ones where his eyes are closed. It makes me think of him sleeping. Cover his mouth area and he could be. I don't know what it is about people sleeping - the peace, perhaps. Ever since Shakespeare (and before that, I bet)...
"For thee watch me, whilst thou dost wake elsewhere
Far off from me, with others all too near."

Or something like that.
