Black Sabbath
Rating (1-10): 9.5
Ah, the first real heavy-metal record ever. What an impact this cd would have on the history of rock. Ozzy Osbourne and his band Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut after being in a blues band called Earth. This album, as mentioned before is one of the most phenomenal records ever. The powerful riffs from Iommi, the screeching vocals of Osbourne, and the beats by Geezer Butler and Bill Ward combined to form an amazing record. There is no way to accurately describe a record like this one but to go out and buy it yourself and just listen to an amazing, fresh sound. Great songs include "Black Sabbath", "The Wizard", "NIB", and "Behind the Wall of Sleep".
Paranoid
Rating (1-10): 10
BRIAN'S TOP 10 CDS OF ALL TIME! (#9)
Black Sabbath gets all of its recognition from this cd. I don't care who you are; unless you are a Black Sabbath fan, you only know songs off this cd. You probably listen to the radio and "Ironman" or "Paranoid" comes on and you think "Wow, this is a good song, I wonder who it's by?" It's by Black Sabbath, ass and it's off one of the greatest records of all time. Certainly "Ironman" and "Paranoid" are monumental pieces in rock history but "War Pigs", "Electric Funeral", and "Hand of Doom" all kick ass. Also "Planet Caravan" is a good song but the Pantera cover of it is much better methinks. Anyway, go buy this cd. If you don't have it already, you need to hit yourself....HARD!
Master of Reality
Rating (1-10): 9.5
This cd just expanded on the idea that was already implanted in the 1970's metal-heads; that Black Sabbath kicked major ass. Not only does this cd have a great feel to it, but it also contains their heaviest song, "Children of the Grave". "Sweet Leaf" and "After Forever"; are two kick ass songs that keep this cd pumped and moving and soft ballads like "Embryo" and "Orchid" provide a great interlude between kick-assishness. Get this cd and turn it up!
Volume 4
Rating (1-10): 8
This is my least favorite of the six big Black Sabbath records. True, it does have good songs, but it's softer than the other records by them and doesn't have the same feeling that I get when I listen to the other records by them. Still, songs like "Snowblind" and "Wheels of Confusion" add to this record and "Changes" is a super-cool slow song that was the entrance theme to "Death" of K.A.W. fame.
Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath
Rating (1-10): 10
This album truly rocks! I cannot find one thing wrong with this record. Although it doesn't make the Brian Top 10 cd list, it is close. My favorite Sabbath song of all time, "Sabbra Cadabra" is on this record and "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath", "A National Acrobat", and "Spiral Architect" are all excellent tunes. After "Paranoid", this is the next Sabbath cd that you should own.
Sabotage
Rating (1-10): 9
The final album of the dynamic Black Sabbath era closes out with a bang. Sabotage is by far the heaviest Black Sabbath cd with songs like "Symptom of the Universe", "Hole in the Sky", and the epic ballad "Megalomania". Although this cd lacks any sort of classic, memorable riffs in it, I can still listen to this record and smile, knowing that it was the closing chapter of an epic rock band, that kicks more ass than donuts........
