Appetite for Destruction
Rating (1-10): 10
Well, here is where the controversy begins. This is NOT Guns N' Roses best album, but the songs on it are the most famous. The opinion of people that think this is their best record obviously don't appreciate some of the long, well-written ballads off of the Use Your Illusion set. However, to say that this album does not rule would be stupid. Appetite for Destruction is one of the greatest metal albums ever and Hit Parader mentioned it as the greatest record of all time, which is a stretch. Axl's screetching vocals, and Slash's masterful guitar playing add to Duff and Matt's beats. Oh yeah, there is a dude named Izzy who ocassionally sings but nobody cares about him (I...am......soooo.......... pissed......off......right....now!!). "Welcome to the Jungle", "Night Train", "Mr. Brownstone", "Paradise City", "My Michelle", and "Sweet Child O' Mine" are all great songs.
Lies
Rating (1-10): 8
A nice combo of live stuff and previously unreleased studio recordings on this one. The theme of this record is supposed to be about how the press "lies" all the time (there was much controversy between GNR and the press while they were together), but none of the songs really fit the theme. However, songs like "Patience", a cover of Aerosmith's "Mama Kin", and "Move to the City" are all good songs. If you want to get a glimpse of why Guns N' Roses were hated by many people listen to the song "One in a Million".
Use Your Illusion I
Rating (1-10): 10
The first of the best combo of cds released ever. This album combines so many aspects of music that it is hard to place it in a specific genre. However, it kicks much ass and young and old alike can appreciate it. From fast, furious songs like "Back off Bitch", "Right Next Door to Hell", "Perfect Crime", and "Garden of Eden" to bluesy songs like "Dust N' Bones", "Bad Obsession", and "You Ain't the First" to slow, melodic songs like "Don't Cry", and of course, the most famous GNR song ever, "November Rain" which is the #1 music video of all time on MTV, this album rocks and doesn't stop
Use Your Illusion II
Rating (1-10): 10
BRIAN'S TOP 10 CDS OF ALL TIME! (#5)
The best Guns N' Roses album ever is Use Your Illusion II. This is like Use Your Illusion I but better. There are more ballads (nobody does ballads better than GNR) as well as a few rock-like opera songs. And of course, the vulgar, fast, rock and roll songs that made them famous from the beginning. Also, there are less blues songs which makes this album amazing. The awesome songs on this record are: "Civil War", "14 Years", "Yesterdays", "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", "Get in the Ring", "Shotgun Blues", "Breakdown", "Pretty Tied Up", "Locomotive" (my favorite GNR song), "Estranged", "You Could Be Mine", and "Don't Cry". In case you were wondering, the only two songs I left off are "So Fine" and "My World" which are too bad and weird respectively for my taste. Like all my top 10 cds, if you don't own this one either buy it or hit yourself. My friend Bill posed the question that if you combined the best of both of these records together into one album, would it be better then Master of Puppets for the best album of all time? I think so. What do you think? E-mail me with your opinion.
