Killing Is My Business, and Business is Good!
Rating (1-10): 8
Megadeth's first three releases were all good hard rock cds. They are simple songs and it doesn't seem as though they tried especially hard to make a great cd. Much of this can be attributed to drug use, which Megadeth did a lot during their early years. This is one of the cheapest cds I have ever bought (meaning quailty, not price), but never judge a book by its cover. This album is still great and if you see it recommend snatching it up, the only copy I have ever seen in any record store was at Best Buy, and I got it, so go get it if you can and check out songs like "Killing is my Business.....and Business is Good!", "Skull Beneath the Skin", and "Looking Down the Cross".
Peace Sells, But Who's Buying?
Rating (1-10): 8.5
The sophomore effort is better then the original release. The quality of the cd is better and you can tell Megadeth had a little better budget. Still, the content of the songs are the same, hard, fast, and no excuses. Check out "Wake Up Dead", "Peace Sells", and "The Conjuring".
So Far, So Good, So What?
Rating (1-10): 7
This is the worst of the three original Megadeth releases that not too many people know about. Many of the songs are repetitive and lack feeling to them. The songs are slightly better written and the cover of the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the U.K." is pretty cool. "Into the Lungs of Hell" is kinda cool, and "Set the World Afire" and "Mary Jane" are aight. This is really the last cd where there was a big band change with members, after this one a foursome would be set for quite a while.
Rust in Peace
Rating (1-10): 10
BRIAN'S TOP 10 CDS OF ALL TIME! (#8)
Well, they got off drugs for the most part and look what happened...they made the 8th best record of all time. This is quite an accomplishment for a band and Dave Mustaine showed the world that he too could be a success with the right elements. Dave and Marty work together spelndidly on this record and the beats from the other Dave and Nick add to every songs awesomness. Go check this record out if you want a fast, furious, amazing sounding record. Good songs are "Holy Wars", "Poison was the Cure", "Take No Prisoners", "Tornado of Souls" and "Hangar 18" which was nominated for a grammy but lost to Metallica's "Enter Sandman".
Countdown to Extinction
Rating (1-10): 9
A great follow-up to Rust in Peace, Megadeth continues with their driving power that made them so famous. This record is much more mature then any other they had written in the past and thus is better then the first three. I like this album a lot and I really recommend that you buy this album first before you get any other Megadeth (except Rust in Peace) because it combines all the elements of Megadeth very well. From the original simplicity, to the more recent complicated rhythms, this album has it all. "Skin O' My Teeth", "Symphony of Destruction", and "Sweating Bullets" are all classics.
Youthanasia
Rating (1-10): 10
This is another great cd from Mustaine and co. This album just adds on the where Countdown to Extinction left off, but the songs are better overall. "Reckoning Day", "Train of Consequences", "Family Tree", "Youthanasia", and "A Tout le Monde" are great tracks.
Cryptic Writings
Rating (1-10): 9.5
This is the most recognizable of all the Megadeth cds and gets the most air-play. Megadeth matured even more on this record and it shows in songs like "Trust", "Almost Honest", "Use the Man", and "Secret Place". Overall, a great cd.
Hidden Treasures
Rating (1-10): 8
An EP from Megadeth this time featuring random covers of other sogns and songs off of soundtracks. This is a great cd and is relatively inexpensive. Credit Megadeth for their covers as I think they are the best at covering songs. If Dave Mustaine is reading this he should know that he is free to cover a Red Hairs' song anytime he wants. "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "99 Ways to Die", "Paranoid", "Go to Hell", and "Angry Again" are all great tracks.
Risk
Rating (1-10): 5
I figured out how Risk came to life. You see I was taking a dump one day and ((plop)) out came Risk. This record sucks, don't bother with it. Wait for the next Megadeth album to come out. "Crush 'Em", "Breadline", and "Insomnia" are good songs, but they are the only good songs. Boy this record sucks.
