Comments:
4-1-03
Bere fell off the table last year for the Cubs with an absolutely horrible first 16 starts before injuring his knee in June, missing the rest of the season. This is clearly a make or break year for Jason, as he tries to resurrect his career. The Indians will most likely stick him in the 5th spot at least early in the year, as they want the two youngsters to get consistant starts. He may be moved to the bullpen later in the year in order to make room for another young pitcher in the rotation. If he matches his 2001 season (11-11, 4.31 ERA), the Indians will be thrilled.

Pitched only two games before his season was ended with an arm injury. The Indians only owe him $1M, but it’s still wasted money.

Filed for free agency. Buh-bye.
11-3-03
Re-signed to a minor-league contract, and Invited to Spring Training. I don't get this, unless the Indians are going to use Bere as the AAA "veteran/has-been/fungible" starter next year. Of course, this is assuming that Bere will remain injury-free. I guess we'll know more as we get closer to Spring Training.
