Having counselled quite a number of people in the years that I have been in ministry, I find one thing that is common to almost all of them. A BINDING PAST.
The counseling sessions usually begin like this. We pray. Move on to talking about "present problems and issues" that the counselee feels are the ones that should be addressed. However, as we go deeper and deeper in the conversation I find that most of them are suffering from the same thing that I needed to deal with when I was younger in the ministry.
See, we're all trying to move on. And we're all trying to reach our goals. The "only" problem is we're still living in the failures, pains, regrets, sorrows, and sins of our past. It's kinda like trying to move forward while dragging a huge tank tied to a rope around your waste. If you do get to move an inch, it'll be like breaking your back.
Friend, moving on can be difficult. Very difficult. But it doesn't need to be. Look to Jesus and focus on Him. Why? Because He is the reminder of the present truths in your life if you have Him as Lord and Saviour. That you are forgiven. That you are assured. That you are equipped. That you are not alone. That you are able to do all things in Him. And that you are not perfect. He is. He loves you. He's with you every step of the way to bring that perfection into your life by the power of His grace and mercy. All we have to do is to let Him do His part while we do ours.
And what is our part?
It's to walk on. And to let go.
Let go. And let God
