The currency of Centurion
is the Talent. You begin the game
with 20 talents.
You can make money three
different ways: collecting tributes,
plundering or making (and winning) bets.
The simplest of the three
ways is definitely collecting tributes. Every province under your control sends
a set amount to the Roman Treasury every year. The amount they send is based on
the following variables:
-The province's status.
When you conquer a province by force, it is Occupied, and with time, it will
change to a Colony, then an Ally (if you took control of the province by making
an alliance, then it will start at this level, save Sardinia and Britania) and finally the province will become Citizens.
-The level of tribute you
set for the province. The higher it is, the more talents you will receive, but
the less happy your people will be. To establish a default level for all of
your provinces, go to Tribute Policy.
If you want to set the tribute level for only one province, go to the
province's menu and select Tribute. When you conquer a province through negotiation, the level will automatically be set
according to the level set during your deal (Low will be Tolerable, Medium will be Irritating, and High will
be Oppressive). If you raise the
tribute level after making the deal, it will go against your reputation.
-Some provinces give more
than others; Italia, Aegyptus, Carthago
and
If you loose Italia, you
will no longer receive tributes from any of your provinces, so make sure you
don't lose it! In case you do lose it, do everything possible to get it back as
quick as you can.
The second way to make
money is to Plunder. You need to have a legion
in the province you want to plunder. Don't use this option unless you are in
big trouble (if you lost Italia, for example); plundering lowers your
reputation, lowers the level of happiness in the province, and keeps other
countries from making alliances with you.
The third and final way to make money is through betting on the Racing Chariots matches. You have to bet a certain amount (with a maximum of 100 talents) that will be tripled if you win. However, participating in Chariot races also costs you (5 to 20 talents for the chariot), and if you want to cheat (bribe opponents, hire a medic or invoke the gods), it'll cost you even more. These races can onlybe held in Italia.
