Argument from Love
by Rod Jackson

All verses are quoted from the NASB anything in [square brackets] is added by me for clarity.

" `Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?' And He [Jesus] said to him, `YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' " Matthew 22:36-39

"The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love." 1 John 4:8

Many people seem to have a problem understanding how a God who is love can allow evil to exist. But the explanation is really simple. Jesus said,

" `A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?' Simon answered and said, `I suppose the one whom he forgave more.' And He [Jesus] said to him, `You have judged correctly.' " Luke 7:41-43

So for a greater love is needed a greater forgiveness. But for a greater forgiveness, a greater evil. Thus because God is love is why He has allowed evil for a time to exist, so that our love may be maximized.
