God or Money?
by Rod Jackson

All verses are quoted from the NASB anything in [square brackets] is added by me for clarity.

Jesus said,

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

Why would someone want perishable riches when they can have imperishable ones?

Jesus continued

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." Matthew 6:24

King Solomon who was blessed with wisdom from God said

"He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity." Ecclesiastes 5:10

We live in a country where we won't starve to death. Isn't that enough?

The apostle Paul said,

"For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." 1 Timothy 6:10

The author of Hebrews writing to Christians, said,

"Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, `I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,' " Hebrews 13:5

Some people think their lives will be better, if they only have more. They will never have enough what they need is God! For God fills the soul and as He stated to His children - He will never leaves us or forsake us. What more could one want?!?!?

"And Jesus said to His disciples, `Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.'" Matthew 19:23

"Then He [Jesus] said to them, `Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.'" Luke 12:15

So you see, it is not the case that 'He who has the most toys wins'. the passage continues -

And He [Jesus] told them a parable, saying, `The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself, saying, "What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?" Then he said, `This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry." But God said to him, `You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?' So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." Luke 12:16-21

You don't know when you'll die. Why store up treasures that can perish, or you may perish and what good will your earthly treasures do for you then?

"But seek first His [God's] kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things [food, clothing, shelter] will be added to you." Matthew 6:33

You see, if you are right with God. God will look after you...
