TWO ETHICAL ISSUES

Cite two ethical issues in computing. Explain how they are ethical in nature.
  • Software Piracy
  • We are aware of the government's campaign against software piracy. With our knowledge of ethics, we know that software piracy is morally wrong and is prosecutable as crime. However, selling and buying pirated software is but normal in our country because the government is not serious in implementing the law against this crime and that they are not serious in running after those who committed this crime. Pirated software are rampant everywhere and are being sold like pancakes in malls and sidewalks. Sometimes we can not blame people patronizing them also because the cost is much more affordable than that of the licensed ones, but when quality matters then we have the option which one to choose.
  • Pornography
  • Being a Christian-dominant country, nudity is considered immoral here in the Philippines. Pornography is almost everywhere, both in papers and in the more hi-tech industry, in the Net. The pleasure people get from them triggers them to sin against God. But because some countries do not actually consider them to be immoral, pornography is rampant in the Net, which make people easily access them. If people justify their patronizing pornography as expression of Art, then pornography can be unquestionably considered ethical.
