A puppy mill is a place that breeds dogs for finanacial gain. Some mills are liscensed and some are not. Again we haver our "backyard breeders" In my opinion they all contribute to the over  population problem with our pets. You may have seen some puppy mills on shows like Geraldo or 20/20. These puppy mills are run down. The pets there are uncared for and abused. There is usually  alot of puppies and adult dogs that die from lack of proper care. It isnt unusual to see this kind of cruelty on tv. Then again we are have our licensed puppy mills that are run under clean sircumstances.

The puppies and dogs here usually lack the human attention that they need. Although, sometimes the breeder will spend a little time with some puppies before they ship them  off to the pet stores ect. Animals are not for finacial gain. They have feelings and emotions. If we were to breed humans like this I think there would be a whole lot more into the situation. That may seem a little harsh but, animals are like children. They need love and attention just the same. They are part of families to. When you buy puppies or kittens from "some" pet stores you are just contributing to the problem also. I say some because there are pet stores that will take "accidental  litters" and sell or give them away. Here we are dealing with unresponsible owners.

If you do buy a puppy or kitten from a pet store ask them whre the puppy/kitten came from and about its background. Dont forget to check your pound  or rescue groups when looking for an animal. 1 out of every 4 pets that end up at shelters are purebreeds. Let that be one of your first options when shopping for a dog or cat.
