The tanka is a Japanese poem of traditionally five lines in the syllable form of 5,7,5,7,7. It is a more personal poem as opposed to the haiku. Although, like the haiku, over the years the traditional form has seen a variety of changes take place, the essence of this style is the personal awareness the poet brings to the poem. Here you will find a variety of tanka. We hope you will enjoy the presentations and come back again.
