Dual success for Downhills Central at Schools' Sports

Bright sunshine, tempered by a cool breeze, helped to make Tottenham Schools' Sports, held at Harringay Stadium, a big success and well worthy of Coronation year. At the last moment, however, when Lady Morrison was about to present the prizes, a shower came on, and as it appeared to herald a severe downpour, the presentation was postponed until a later date.

Fears were unfounded, and within a few minutes the clouds had gone and the sun was shining. But by then the crowd had also gone.

There had been a few words from Mr. J. Power, Borough Education Officer, thanking the directors of Harringay Stadium for their co-operation, and from Mrs. Remington, chairman of Tottenham Education Committee, thanking the officers of Tottenham Schools' Sports Association for their hard work in organising the event.

Lord Morrison was unable to be present through illness and Lady Morrison deputised for him.

The general standard of performance was high, and many events were closely contested.

There was no doubt as to who the champion senior schools would be, Downhills Central winning the boys' championship with 75 points from Rowland Hill with 49 points, and the same school winning the senior girls' championship with 42 points from Raley Avenue with 30.

Downhills also won the senior boys' and girls' relay championships.

The champion junior schools were Stamford Hill, boys, and Bruce Grove girls.

By the high standard set in a number of events it is hoped that Tottenham will be well represented at the Middlesex County Sports to be held at the White City on 30th (?) June, and in the (...unreadable...) sports at Uxbridge on 17th and 18th (...unreadable...)
