Monash 1920. Lone Gum store (left) and hall (right) with cellar for store being dug in foreground. The hall, originally from Mitcham Army Camp, became the first school house and later the Institute building. State Library of South Australia collection.

"In times of high wind-and these were frequent-the whole building would sway as much as six inches from the brick chimney. So, for safety, at a word of command the children would dive down under their desks until the swaying became less threatening. Part of the rood lifted, and the loose sheets flapped loudly."

School building 1952.
The room to the right was opened 8 July 1924.
The infants room on the left was added in 1929.
Foundations being excavated for library extensions, c1995. Monash Primary collection.
