Rogue's Bio!
Rogue's Childhood She believes her father to have "run off" before she was born. Her biological mother appears to be deceased or perhaps abandoned by Rogue as Rogue has called Raven Darkholme (aka Mystique) the closest thing to a mother she's known and that she "never had any sort of family" prior to Mystique taking her in. Since she claims no real family, it can be assumed that she either isn't aware of one that at least cares about her existing or that she disowned them in her own mind for whatever reasons. Rogue was born in Caldecott County, Mississippi. Mystique once told Storm that (Marvel Fanfare #40) and it would seem to be true, but it also seems that Rogue either left and then returned there at a very young age (prior to her powers manifesting) or that she moved around the county at some point early on. This can be determined from a detailed recollection given of the first manifestation of her powers (in X-Men Unlimited #4). Rogue must have been very young, no more than 10 or so. She had just received her first kiss from a boy named Cody Robbins. They were under her "lucky tree" by the banks of the "Big M" (Mississippi River) and this spot was later described in detail as being in Caldecott County, Mississippi in Uncanny X-Men #185. When Cody kissed her, making skin-to-skin contact, her powers kicked in for the first time and she absorbed all his memories, one of which was a reference to her as "the new girl". After the kiss and as is typical of Rogue's absorption power, Cody lost consciousness, however untypically he never regained it (Rogue LS) when his memories and psyche later faded from her mind. This could be explained because of a reference made in the same issue. In addition to Cody losing consciousness, Rogue did as well, due to the shock of the transfer and she collapsed onto Cody's unconscious body where they both were found three days later. Some unknown, traumatic events apparently followed which left Rogue alone, very frightened, and fending for herself in an unknown, wooded area wielding a shot gun at anyone who got too close. This is where she met the woman who would raise her, Mystique. Mystique had heard about a young girl named "Rogue", living on her own in that area, and sought her out. Using her shapeshifting abilities, she appeared as a beautiful, human woman and she spoke in a comforting way to Rogue until she could be approached. Then she told Rogue they were both "mutants" and revealed her true form. She took Rogue into her care and Rogue stayed with her for "nearly ten" years after, by Rogue's own words. This could be a rounded number, but it seems logical that it must be no less than 7 or 8 years. An apparently conflicting story in Uncanny X-Men #178 seems to imply that Mystique would have been taking care of Rogue at a much younger age. There Rogue recalled to Mystique a plague of "badness an' nightmares" and reminisced about Mystique holding her through them when she was a young child, before her powers manifested. Whichever version is true, Rogue was definitely living in Caldecott County in her early teens and resided there at some point with Mystique and Mystique's crime partner/lover, Irene (aka Destiny) in a very modest home. Later, Rogue remarked of a comfortable mansion-like home she was in reminding her of where she grew up, but this seems to be only of the Caldecott area, which was once stated to be one dotted with numerous great mansions that had since fallen into ruin. Mystique and Destiny were engaged in mutant terrorist activities and although Mystique has certainly shown she cares a great deal for Rogue, in Rogue's own words, Mystique very quickly "had me trussed up in uniform and sluggin' it out against Ms. Marvel among others." Mystique has always called Rogue by her alias, which raises the question of whether even Mystique, who has apparently known Rogue the longest of anyone, knows Rogue's real name. Rogue joins the Evil Mutants Once Mystique had convinced Rogue to join her and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, she took full advantage of Rogue's ability to absorb the powers of other mutants and Rogue helped Mystique defeat several of her enemies. Mystique introduced Rogue to the Hellfire Club and Rogue took on Sebastian Shaw (then the Black King), but lost. Rogue also helped Mystique take on the Avengers and almost defeated their entire team singlehandedly. Rogue made reference to having fought Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) once before, but in a subsequent battle, Rogue's absorption powers were found to have possible permanent effects. She took on Carol and the battle grew intense as Rogue tried to absorb Danvers. Because of her Ms. Marvel powers, Danvers was able to continue to fight back and didn't lose consciousness. Neither Carol nor Rogue would give up. When Carol finally lost consciousness, Rogue had permanently absorbed Ms. Marvel's abilities of flight, invulnerability, and super-strength. This is also where she gained her lesser known power of a "seventh" sense, the personality, memories, and psyche of Carol Danvers. Danvers' personality in Rogue's mind was hard for Rogue to control and her sanity was threatened. When Carol first lost consciousness, the voices from Carol's mind were screaming in her head and in a desperate attempt to quiet them, she propelled Carol's body away from her and off the Golden Gate bridge where they were fighting. Carol fell from a great height and would have died, but was caught and rescued by Spider-Woman. Still, Carol was left with a mind that was almost nonexistent and that functioned, as her doctor put it, "at the level of a newborn infant." The near murder of Carol and the aftermath of what happened to her would make Rogue a hated woman for years to come, regardless of the aspect of what in Rogue's mind was self defense. The voices continued to scream in Rogue's head, however, and she began to lose touch with which personality traits were hers and which were Danvers'. But Carol's personality traits in Rogue's mind also allowed Rogue to begin to see the underlying evil and selfishness behind Mystique's motives and the wrong in what she and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants were doing.
