I Had A Heart Of Stone…
© by Rogue Poet

I had a heart of stone.
completely encased in ice.
then you said hello.
The ice warmed a little.
I heard my heart crack.

You didn't turn away.
Intrigued my mind.
We had a conversation.
The ice melted and ran.
I felt my heart crack.

You called me on the phone.
Your voice is so wonderful.
Pure cane sugar sweet.
The water pooled, steamed.
My heart cracked.

We talked for hours.
Shared our dreams.
Talked of past pain.
The ice is gone, left no trace.
My heart of stone cracked.

The distance makes misery.
I want to be near you now.
Then you said "I miss you!"
Clouds formed, giving cool shade.
A warmed heart melts the stone.

I am swelling with emotion.
Passion is a great tidal wave.
My heart leaps for joy!
The clouds blot out all reason.
My heart is on fire!

But you found someone else.
You said "I'm sorry, goodbye.
"We can still be friends."
A cold rain starts to fall.
My heart shatters, gravel remains.
