Ceferino Garcia Photos

Garcia vs. Lee, 1939. A promotional poster of the World Middleweight Title bout between Ceferino Garcia and Glen Lee in Manila, which was eventually fought on December 23, 1939. Garcia defended his title via a technical knockout of Lee in the 13th out of the 15-round match. Referee Jack Dempsey (former heavyweight champion) stopped the bout a few seconds before the round was due to end, as Lee rose groggily from his second knockdown of the round. Lee had been down for eight, and then nine, times. A light drizzle fell throughout the fight and made the canvas flooring slippery. This is the first world title bout ever held in the Philippine Islands.
