Mars (Ares in Greek) was the God of War; he is also the Patron God of the Romans.  His chosen animals, often found on his battlefields, were the vulture and the dog/wolf. He was the son of Juno and Jupiter, his one true love was his half-sister.  Their daughter was Harmonia.  Mars' emblem was a spear and a burning torch.
