About Miss Malaika
Miss Malaika is very similar to Miss Universe and Miss World by way
of flair, glamour and phylum. The Miss Malaika event has to promote African
Renaissance through African culture, to celebrate and unite Africa and its Diaspora
through beauty.
The Model House, a unique initiative to hit the local entertainment industry. Run by two prominent personalities in this field, Pinky Ghelani and Nelly Mshimba, ‘The House’ has undertaken all sorts of training and development exercises and has managed to secure winners in the beauty and modeling world. Being fluent in the pageant world as well as choreographing and organizing events, The Model House has recently acquired the franchise of Miss Malaika.
The event will be taking place on the 30th August 2002, at the Grand Regency Hotel and will involve a host of talent from both local and international scenes including the likes of Regina Re, Joy Mboya, Zain Verjee and an international VJ from MTV.
The scouting will be done with the Ford Supermodel Search, a representative from The Model House will accompany the team and be on the lookout for anyone who fits the bill to represent Kenya. This will be done around the country as soon as possible.
Why are we different? Why are we unique?
The event we aim to hold will be in a class of it’s own. The winners will
not only obtain a pretty crown once the judges have made their decisions. With
Miss Malaika under their belts, they will be able to represent Kenya in a semi-final
to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe after which the finalist will bear Kenya’s
flag at an event to be held at the Victoria Falls.
The three semi-finalists will win a flat, rent-free, for one year, a bank account with a minimum balance, jewellery, swim wear, clothing vouchers, transport and fuel, lunch/dinner vouchers, air tickets, hotel accommodation, and more. Their duties will be simple, carry forth the torch of our heritage, our culture through the ardent support of artist, painters, craftsmen, poets, musicians, etc. Educate the people on how important it is to be able to be self-sustaining, talk to the girl-child, and make her aware of her potential as an individual. We are also hoping to get them involved with the United Nations during their reign: from this, we hope that they will be able to secure vast knowledge and experience from this signified organization, therefore allowing them to be recognized and able to earn a good living, thus achieving self-respect and realization.
