Roots & Akcent are
two bredren who create, record and perform a unique blend of reggae music. It is
their desire to draw closer to God and to be used in the fullness of the Holy
Spirit for His glory and purpose. Having a love for reggae and a burning desire
to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, Roots & Akcent have responded to the
commission the Lord has given them to teach people of all nations to observe the
things that He taught. It is through the vehicle of music that they dispense
messages of repentance, salvation and righteous living which are the only cures
for society's ills and the only means of escape from God's wrath. Simply put, they believe (and know) that Jesus is the way to eternal life and His blood is the only source of atonemement provided by God. It is the
desire of Roots & Akcent to reach the youth of this world with a positive
alternative to the immorality that is so often promoted through entertainment
and the media. Further, it is their will to provide comfort to those who are
hopeless and in despair due to oppression that exists throughout the world,
which is in the hands of the wicked one until Jesus returns. Roots & Akcent wish
to encourage and rally Christian soldiers of all nations and to prepare them for
the coming of Christ in His glory. NOW AVAILABLE is the debut recording from
Roots & Akcent entitled "Keepin' It Real" which contains the dancehall gospel
combination track "Keepin' It Real (With God)" and the modern roots cut, "Lake
Of Fire". Also included are a dub remix of both songs, done in such a way that
listeners can meditate and reflect on the message or sing the lyrics themselves.
The tracks have been programmed and mixed by Winston Spence of LSW Productions
with contributions from Lamont Williams on additional keyboards and Fred
Rodriguez on guitar. See a review on "Keepin' It Real" on Reggae Vibes by going to this link: http://www.reggae-vibes.com/rev_712/keepinit.htm
***UPDATE***UPDATE***UPDATE***
12/11/03: At this time Mike Roots and Akcent Da Just Poet are working individually on solo projects. As time allows, Akcent has been recordings tracks at LSW Music Production Studios in Waterbury and we will keep you posted on those and let you know when they will be available to you. To give you a bit of a preview, Akcent has reworked a track which he wrote back in the days of Open Mind Productions, called "The Scripture", in a crucial dancehall style. Other tracks feature his unique chanting style and some mellow roots vibes as well.
Mike Roots has been busy over the past year writing and recording numerous tracks including "Fight Against" (on Jah Servant's "Freedom" riddim), "Send Up" and "Two Roads" (produced by Wayne Stoddart), two specials with Denise Gould for His Majesty's Sound System in the UK ("A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste" on the Flip riddim and "Something Beautiful" on the In This Together riddim) and more. Mike is planning to release a collection of tracks in Spring 2004, so look out for it. E-mail Mike for information on promo copies of thus far completed tracks.

I will bless the
Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall
make her boast in the Lord: The humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O
magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. ( Psalm 34 : 1 - 3
