S.B. Payne, of Bluefield, was in town this week, shaking hands with friends and going over his usual route in the interests of his company. He has just recovered from an attack of appendicitis, which kept him for several weeks in the hospital at Bluefield. **** Col. and Mrs. Wm. Lackie have gone south on an extended pleasure trip. They expect to see St. Augustine, Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Cuba and other points of interest. They expect to return the first of February. **** Mose Pushkin, of Charleston, is visiting his friend J.M. Lopinsky, who is improving gradually though Joe's friends, among whom stand the "Recorder" force from "devil" to general manager, hope that he will soon be out again and able to attend to business. **** H. Addair of Avondale, a prominent farmer of that section, who has been sitting on the grand jury this week, came in Tuesday to renew his subscription for a year in advance. He is also on the "Honor Roll" and it still increaseth. **** "Zeb" Conley, a former Wyoming County boy, who recently went to Florida to visit his brother, Victor at Jacksonville, is back and spent a day or two with his mother and brother at this place, this week. He reports that times are rather dull in Florida and the "Bib Mountain" state is plenty good enough for him. **** W.M. Adams one of the best of Windom, Wyoming, and one who likes to say that he has read our newspaper ever since we wore knee pants and stuck type for fifty cents a day in the classic little city of Oceana, was here this week and renewed his subscription. **** Boyd Belcher, assessor of Wyoming county, and Chester H. Cook , County Superintendant, of same county were in the city yesterday attending the school superintendant' school convention. Tom Jackson ought to have been here too, for when these two men and our foreman H.W. Conley, were together three of his sons-in-laws were all together, which is a strange incident considering as how they are so seldom found thusly. "DAVY DASHES" (This title must refer to the town of Davy Wva.) Miss Sadie Cook is very ill from a severe attack of tonsilitis. **** Miss Edith Stiltner who was operated on for appendicitis at the "Miners Hospital" some time ago has now returned to her home. **** Miss Stella Booth is recovering from an attack of acute inflammation. Her many friends are hoping to see her out again, soon. **** We are glad to say that the Davy Band Boys are again rebibing their musical spirit after a long rest. It seems that about all of the boys took notion to get married but this does not seem to have ruined their musical talent. **** There was a hunting party in the south mountain of this neighborhood and they found some bear tracks and reported it and the sportsmen were very badly excited. They were soon on his trail but have had no success so far. **** Dr. M.M. Ammons of Davy is rapidly improving **** A revival is being held at the Baptist Church by the Rev. F.F. Peters of Athens Wva. **** Mr. Henry K. Barbe and Mr. Wm. Cassius Cook of Welch were showing some strangers the fine new H. S. Building at this place Wednesday. **** |
