Ludwig Hercourt Keim is the first known ancestor of the Keim family, he was born about 1598 in the Palatinate of the Rhine, near Speyer, Germany. He served in the military during the 30 Year's War as an officer under Bernard Von Weiner. In 1638 he participated in the storming and capture of Breisach. He died in 1664 in Palatinate of the Rhine, near Speyer, Germany.  He was married to Berta Keim, whose maiden name is still unknown.

She was born about 1602, and they had the following children:
