Notes for Edward Beeson:
Immigrated in 1682 or 1684 on one of the William Penn voyages from Stoke, Lancaster, England & settled in New Castle, below Philadelphia.

Family is of English origin and the name a corruption of Beeston an old family of or near Leeds, England.

Lineages can be traced back to the 15th century in the personage of Thomas Beeston of Beeston, a small village near Leeds, down through his g-g-grandson, Sir George Beeston, who was living in 1595.

The coat of arms is the same and is of the ancient family seated at Cheshire.

Tradition states that the Beesons were of French Origin, and there was an officer in the army of William the Conqueror named Bezon. After the Norman conquest he became an officer in the royal Guard. His descendants settled in the Isle of Man, where one of them married a daughter of the ruler of the island. He later returned to Lancashire where descendants are numerous.

An Edward Beeson purchased land in Nottingham in 1702, but it is unclear whether the purchaser was this Edward or his son. [Broderbund Family Archive #354, Ed. 1, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, Date of Import: Feb 28, 1999, Internal Ref. #1.354.1.6043.6]

The first member of the Beeson family to arrive was Edward Beeson, along with his wife Rachel Pennington. Edward and his wife came into the colonies by way of a land grant from William Penn, a Quaker. It is not known if they were Quakers. However, it is known they lived in Chester Co., PA.

The Chester Co. PA Gen Web internet page had this exciting picture of the layout of the early town in 1702. See attached picture in scrapbook. If you look closely at the top left of the picture, you can see Edward Beeson's name on his piece of property in the town of East Nottingham.

Henry Grube (Esq.) and Agnes Jefferey (born 1559) may be the parents of Thomas Grubbe, born 1581. One source says they are his parents and their marriage date was 1562 in England. The source also says he was a member of Parliament for Devizes Co., England and that he was born in England in 1555 and died in England.

Another source does not mention that Henry Grube has a wife, but does mention him as the father of the Thomas Grubbe born between 1530 and 1559. This same source had the following information from "A Genealology of the Beeson -Beason Family" by Henry Hart Beeson, 1968, p. 7.

"The Grubb family, or Grubbe as it was originally spelled, is of Danish origin, where the Grubbes were very closely connected with the royal family and were very influential during the reigns of Christian IV and Frederick III of Denmark. A Henry Grubbe lived in Hertfordshire, England, where in 1506 he married Joan, daugher of Sir Richard Radcliffe who died in 1485 on Bosworth Field in support of King Richard III."

It is possible that this Henry Grubbe was the son of the Henry Grubbe mentioned above.

Child of Henry (Esq.) and Lady Radcliffe is:

3024 i. Thomas Grubb, born 1533 in Potterne, Devizes Co., Wiltshire, England; died 02 February 1616/17 in England; married (1) Agnes Jeffrey; married (2) Johan Williams.
