So you want to pick up a trade…  Crafting is extremely helpful in making money and items for your guild-mates and other DAoC players. I recommend picking up a craft of some sort, though be aware that it can be expensive to buy the materials needed.  Fortunately you can sell the lower-level starter items you make back to the merchants to make some of your money back, but it will end up costing you quite a bit to take up a craft.  It is best to do this little by little as funds allow.  Please see the table below to see what crafts you are able to do, based on your class.  Once chosen, you will need to find the craft-master of the craft you want to assume in Camelot City.

Weaponcrafting Trade-master: Hephas Elgen

Armorcrafting Trade-master: Loraine Elgen

Tailoring Trade-master: Arliss Eadig

Fletching Trade-master: Acey Dalston

Spellcrafting Trade-master: Clayton Gage

Crafting 101  - Eight Steps to Crafting Success

Once you determine which craft you would like to pursue and have talked to your respective craft’s master (please see above chart), you are ready to begin crafting.  Below you will find a step by step guide to gaining skill points in the craft you have chosen:

Step 1:  Funds – You will need money to begin crafting items as the ingredients themselves cost money.  The beginning level items do not generally cost too much, but you will be buying quite a bit of them, so please make sure you adequate money in your inventory.

Step 2:  Craft Icons – You will need to go into your crafting page of your mini screen (The tab that looks like a hand), and move all of the icons over to your quick bar (I usually use the last page in the quick bar (10) to leave room for spell and fighting styles).  You can then click on these buttons and a list of items under the craft category will appear.  (Example: In spell crafting, you would click the spell craft button, and it would provide you with a list of various jewels, with a number next to them specifying the skill level of the item).

Step 3:  Choose an Item to make:  Once this screen has appeared, look for jewels that are blue or yellow (orange if you’re ambitious!), and drag them over to your quick bar.  If you then press the item button, a screen with the recipe to make one will appear.  For instance, in Armor crafting – if you choose to make bronze studded gauntlets, you will need 2 Rawhide Leather Squares, 4 and Woolen Heavy Thread.

Step 4:  Merchants:  You will need to find the merchants who have the ingredients you need to make the item you have selected.  There are two areas in Camelot, which have groups of these merchants, and a few scattered about the realm.  You will need to buy the specified ingredients from these merchants before you can continue.  To find these NPC merchants, please see the  NPC Locator.

Step 5:  Where to Craft:  There are only certain areas where you will be able to craft your items.  If you are a metal worker (armor crafting, weapon crafting) you will need to be near a forge (anvil). If you are a spell crafter or alchemist, you will need to be near an Alchemy Table.  For tailoring, you will need to be near a Spindle (actually you can tailor anywhere as long as you have the materials).  For fletching, you will need to be in front of a lathe to manufacture bows/staves but you can actually fletch arrows anywhere.

Step 6:  Begin Crafting:  Once you are in the correct area and have all of the items you need, you can begin crafting.  Simply press the button of the item you chose to make.  A progress bar will show up on your screen if you did this correctly.  One of two things will happen. Either you will successfully make the item and it will appear in your backpack, or you will fail to make the item (you may or may not lose ingredients in process).  When an item is made successfully, you may gain skill points in your craft or one of its sub-crafts.  Once you have used your materials, you can sell these back to the merchant or give them to appropriate level players (for money when the items are high enough if you choose).  Once your skill points start to rise, you will be able to make other more difficult (and expensive!) items.

Step 7:  Craft Promotions:  Once you have reached a skill-point level of 99 in a craft, you will need to see the Craft-master again. He/She will promote you to the next level and you can begin crafting again for points.  This is true for every additional 100-skill points you receive.

Step 8: Selling: Once you have reached a high-enough level in a craft – you can begin selling the items to other players for a fee.  To find a fair fee, with some profit mark-up price, consult one of the databases made for this purpose (check our Main page for links to Crafting tools). Player-made armor and weapons can be spell-crafted, which will give the holder/wearer more ability.  Poisons can be made to aid in attacks and potions for stuffing trophies. There is really a lot that can be done with your craft.  To sell your items, you and the buyer agree on a price, and then you trade the items for the money.  Word to the wise – don’t press “accept” until you see the money in the trade-box.  You are now on your way to a virtual career!  Good luck!
