Raisin Bread

6-1/2 cups bread flour
3/4 cups sugar + 1 Tabls.
2 packages dry yeast
1 tsp. salt
1 cup water
1 cup milk
4 Tbls. shortening
1 egg
1 cup raisins

  In a large bowl, mix 2 1/2 cups flour, the sugar, salt and yeast. In a sauce pan , combine milk, water and shortening and heat over low heat until warm and shortening is melted; cool to luke warm. Gradually add liquid to the dry ingredients and beat with mixer on medium speed for two minutes. Add the rest of the flour and the raisins and mix by hand until batter is stiff. Do NOT Knead.
Cover and let raise in a warm place for 1 hour. Punch batter down and shape into loaves then place in greased bread pans. Cover and let raise in a warm place 1 hour longer.
  Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 45  minutes or until golden brown.
Make a powdered sugar icing and spread on top.
Yield 2 loaves.
