Walnut Cookies 1-3/4 cups All-purpose flour 3/4 tsp. Baking powder 1/2 tsp. Baking soda 1/2 cup Butter- softened 1/2 cup Vegetable shortening 2/3 cup Sugar 1/2 cup Brown sugar firmly packed 1 Egg - lightly beaten 1 tsp. Vanilla extract 1/2 cup Walnuts- finely chopped About 36-40 walnut halves In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and baking soda In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and white and brown sugar, until fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla and blend until thoroughly creamed. Stir in the chopped walnuts. Shape the cookie dough into a ball. cover with plastic wrap. and refrigerate for at least one hour or up to 2 days. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare a cookie sheet for baking. Divide the dough into four equal parts and the divide each piece int0 about 10 portions. Roll each into a ball and place on the cookie sheet 2-3 inches apart.
