Back to Signs
Any method of reproduction requires good quality artwork for accurate results. This is true for offset printing, screen printing, painted signs and vinyl signs. The final result will never be better than the original. In fact, every time you copy a copy there is some degradation of quality. This is especially important when the art is to be enlarged much beyond the original size. Every flaw becomes exaggerated. Letters on a business card may look fine at one quarter inch high, but when it's enlarged a thousand times it will be too crude to reproduce well.
GOOD ART
Below are acceptable formats of art in order of quality.
In some cases there may be an additional artwork charge. If so, we will let you know.

1. Vector art: Adobe Illustrator, Freehand, or sign making software, Macintosh or PC platform. Some PDF's.
Generally, art produced at an ad agency will be available in this form. This is the most accurate and most readily usable for signage.

2. Camera Ready Art
This is usually black and white art on slick paper. Even if your art is to be in various colors, the artwork must in black and white. (The exception is art for full color printed signage [not painted or vinyl cut]. Ask for details.)
Ideally it should just about fill a letter or legal sized sheet.

3. A good photo copy of camera ready art: Black areas dark, no ragged edges.

4. Printed material: With good contrast between art and background, not too small.

BAD ART
Accurate reproduction cannot be guaranteed and may require extra charges to make it usable.
1. Faxed. A fax of camera ready art is no longer camera art.

2. Poor photocopies.

3. Color copies.

4. Business cards

5. Letterheads

6. Printed material that is too small, low resolution, has darkish backgrounds
or is larger than legal size.

7.Web site graphics. JPEG, GIF. It looks good on screen, but printed, not so good.

8. Art on film, slides, negatives. These need to be converted to disk or paper.
Please note: Often the best way to reproduce a logo is to reset the type. We can do this only if we have the same font (type style). This way we can perform “miracles” even with very poor artwork. Also, if you simply want to specify that words are done in a specific type style, that can easily be done in house providing that we have that particular font (there are many thousands in existence and we only have a few thousand, but these include many of the most commonly used styles).
