Kancil was trying to sleep when Pipit came to seek his help.
“Kancil! Kancil! Kura-Kura
has fallen into a well! You must come and help,” the little bird said and
led Kancil to the place.
When Kancil arrived,
he saw that all his friends were there. They were trying to save the tortoise
but failed. Kancil looked into the well. It was very deep and dark. He
could not see the tortoise but he could hear him crying.
Kancil quickly brought
four elephants with him to a river. He told them to take in as much water
as they could. Then they brought the water back and filled up the well.
The water level rose and Kura-Kura floated to the top of the well.
“Hurray! Hurray!”
the rabbits, monkeys and beavers cheered. Kura-kura was very grateful to
the clever mousedeer.
