Story 5

In a small town in Johor lived a widowed mother with her little son, Rama. The mother was very beautiful except for her hands. They were full of marks. When the boy was big he asked his mother, “Why are your hands so different? Why are they not like the hands of my friend's mother?”

The mother answered, “One day, when you were small, you were playing in the living room. I was cooking in the kitchen. I was preparing chicken rendang and needed some serai leaves. I went into the garden for some. While I was cutting the leaves I heard you scream. I rushed into the house
And saw that you had gone too close to the stove that was on the floor. Your cloth had caught fire. I quickly tore your clothes from your body. You were saved but my hands were badly hurt. That is why they were not beautiful.”

Rama’s eyes were filled with tears. He held his mother's hand in his and said “Mother, your hands are the most beautiful in the world.” From that day onwards Rama began to love his mother more than he ever did.

This year Rama will be sitting for his UPSR. He is working diligently. He wants to score 5A’s. One day he hopes to become a plastic surgeon.
