Potts Family Tree
John Pott was born in 1610 in Cheshire, England. His parents may have been Thomas and Ann Pott.  He married Anne (born 1612 in Llangirrig, Montgomeryshire, Wales, maiden name unknown). John died Feb. 12, 1671/72 in Llanidloes, Montgomery, Wales.  Their children were:

Thomas Potts, b. 1632 in Llangirrig, Montgomeryshire, Wales
George Potts, b: 1634
John Potts b. 1636
Elizabeth Potts b. 1640 in Llangirrig, Montgomeryshire, Wales
Anne Potts b. 1640
Sarah Potts b. 1642
Margaret Potts b. 1644

Thomas Potts was born in 1632 in Llangirrig, Montgomeryshire, Wales, the son of John & Anne Pott. He married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown, born 1636 in Llangirrig, Montgomeryshire, Wales) about 1657, in Wales. Thomas died about 1680 in Nantgnerog, Montgomery, Wales. Elizabeth died in 1707 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA.  Their children were:

Thomas POTTS b: 1660
Jonas POTTS b: 1662
Margaret POTTS b: ABT. 1664
Elizabeth POTTS b: ABT. 1666
Jane POTTS b: ABT. 1668
David POTTS b: ABT. 1670
George POTTS b: 1665 in Nantgnerog, Montgomery, Wales

George Potts was born in 1665 in Nantgnerog, Montgomery, Wales, the son of Thomas & Elizabeth Potts.  He married Jone (maiden name unknown).  George died about 1690 at sea. It appears that they were on their way to America, possibly traveling with George's mother, Elizabeth, and Jone was expecting a child, when George died.  I can't imagine what Jone must have gone through during this time.  Their child, Margaret Potts, was born about 1690 in Providence, Philadelphia Co., PA.

There seems to be nothing definite as to the children of Jone Potts, except the tradition that one of them was that Margaret Potts, who married Richard Cox, in 1712. Joan Potts died about 1740. She was an acceptable minister among Friends.
"The Friend," Volume 30, at page 13, contains the following brief memorial of her.

"Joan Potts, of Germantown, Philadelphia County, who deceased about 1740, was for many years an acceptable minister of the Gospel. Her communications were brief, but they were, her friends say, "well received." She was "innocent and exemplary in life and conversation."

Revised 5/28/2008:
Margaret Potts was born about 1690 in Providence, Philadephia Co., PA, the daughter of George and Jone (Jane? Joan?) Potts.
Originally, I had stated that she married Richard Cox (b. March 26, 1690 in Carlton, Nottingham, England), on May 26, 1717, in Abington, Montgomery Co., PA. Richard Cox had been married before to a woman named Elizabeth or Mary Scarlett.  His children from that marriage were:

Rebecca COX b: ABT. 1730
Elizabeth COX b: ABT. 1738
Mary COX b: ABT. 1740

I received this letter recently:

I am descended from Richard Cox who married Elizabeth Scarlett on 16 Oct 1726.  They had 2 children:  Nathaniel Cox and Rebecca Cox.  Elizabeth d. ca. 1731/32 and Richard married a second time to a non-Quaker, first name Mary (surname unknown) in Dec 1732.  Richard and Mary had the following children: Elizabeth, John, Abraham, William, and Susannah.

In 1742, Richard Cox patented land in Lancaster Co., PA (now York and Adams Cos.).  The family lived in York Co., PA where Richard died 02 Feb 1786 - buried in Red Mount Cemetery, Washington Twp., York Co., PA.

There were at least two (possibly 3) Richard Coxes in the Chester Co., PA area in early 1700's.  Your Richard appears to be somewhat older than my Richard Cox (York Co., PA) and he died in Chester Co., PA in 1762.  My Richard died 24 years later in a different county.

I am descended through Richard and Mary's son John, his son John and yet another son John!  Three generations of Johns!  The 3rd John's son Frederick was my great-grandfather.  Richard and Mary's grandson John moved with his wife Catherine Bower to Trumbull Co., OH.

Please let me know if you are interested in the sources for the above.  The mistake between these two Richards is a common error which we should try to correct.

On Ancestry.com, our Richard Cox is listed as born in 1688 in New Castle, Delaware, the son of John Cox & Rachel Embree Car, and died in Vincent, Cester County, Pennsylvania, in 1762.

Also at
pa-roots.com, I found this info: COX, John, from England about 1708, settled in the neighborhood of Kennet, and is supposed to have been the father of Richard Cox, who married, 3/26/1712, Margaret Potts, of Abington Monthly Meeting.  The children of Richard were Anna, b. 8/29/1713; Sarah, b. 12/15/1715; Richard, b.2/17/1718; Jonathan, b. 6/11/1720; Joseph, b. 2/18/1723; Benjamin, twin with Joseph; John, b. 8,9,1725.  In 1728 they removed near to the Schuylkill river, and Richard died in Vincent township about 1760. Benjamin Cox and Elizabeth, his wife, had children,-Richard, Margaret, Jonathan, William, Joseph, Hannah, Mary, Sarah, Benjamin, and John. William, born 12/21/1751, married 6/15/1780, at Goshen Meeting, Lydia Garrett, daughter of Thomas and Hannah, of Willistown, where they settled. Their children were Hannah, Benjamin, John (of Longwood), Abner, Thomas, Elizabeth, Levi, Jonathan, Lydia, and William.

Margaret Potts Cox died about 1730 in Germantown, PA.

Records show that a Richard Cox married Elizabeth Scarlett in 1726. Our Richard Cox's wife, Margaret Potts, did not die until 1730. However, our Richard Cox was married to a Mary, according to his will in 1762:
