JERRY DAMMERS There's no doubt this man deserves a mention in anybody's list of Ska legends. Who cares if he was an eccentric middle class, working class wannabe when he could write tunes the way he did. He shaped the sound of 2 Tone and introduced rebellion coupled with style into the lives of thousands of mini Walt Jabsco's. MIKE BARSON Inventor of the 'Nutty Sound'. Tremendous piano melody's were his trademark, pushing the Madness sound through Ska to pop and back again in a fairground boys about town style. NEOL DAVIS The driving force behind The Selecter. There's no doubting that Pauline Black has got a great voice but Davis was the main songwriter and he crafted The Selecter's sound. He could almost make his guitar sing whether he was picking 'damping' lines or grinding out a catchy lead part. DAVE WAKELING Helped invent a sound so different to the 2 Tone sound and yet so alike at the same time if you know what I mean. Dave's brilliant guitar work on the off beat always gave The Beat that uplifting sound. BUSTER BLOODVESSEL Stage presence in abundance and always performs well live. Gets included for the fact he has never forgotten his audience unlike some of the others and with Bad Manners has produced some blinding albums which seem to get overlooked sometimes. |
