Welcome
Roughstring Ranch is happy
to welcome two new members
into our riding club.
The first welcome goes to
Dr. Ron and Colleen Cates
of Destiny Hills Ranch,
Athens, TX. Colleen is an
accomplished rider who
raises and trains McCurdy
Plantation Horses and
Tennessee Walkers on their
ranch. She owns over
twenty brood mares and
produces a fine crop of
foals each year. Both
breeds are gaited and
excel at trail riding and
field trials (following
bird dogs hunting quail or
other game birds). If
anyone is looking for an
excellent mount, please
contact Colleen at
mccurdylady@yahoo.com
or visit her webb site at
www.oocities.org/mccurdylady
The second welcome goes to
Tom and Deborah Cole from
Mabank, TX. They operate a
horse transporting company
and will pickup or deliver
your horse anywhere in the
USA. They have quality
trailers and equipment so
if you need a horse moved,
get in touch with them.
You can call them at (903)
887-5207 or e-mail them at
tomdebcole@earthlink.net. |
Congratulations
to Roughstring Rider,
Gillian Lackey who
attended the Pat Parelli
seminar announced in our
last newsletter.
She won a door
prize of a 3-day training
seminar at Pats ranch.
I’m sure she will
have a good time there and
will learn a lot.
I don’t believe
there is a better trainer/
teacher in the business
today than Pat Parelli and
we are excited to have a
member of our club
attending one of his
clinics.
Put in a good word
from the rest of us Gill
and maybe we can get him
to put on a clinic here.

Moonlight Madness
Roughtstring Ranch Riding
Club announces its first
monthly moonlight madness
rides. The rides will be
held on Friday, March the
1st and Saturday, March
the 2nd. Be here by 7:30pm
in order not to miss a
minute of the fun and
excitement of a full moon
trail ride. For those who
have not experienced the
magic of a moonlight ride
this is one ride you owe
to yourself. If you have
experienced one then you
will be eager to do so
again. Roundup all your
friends and family and
share the fun. It will
open a whole new world for
you and your horse. There
will be a big campfire and
plenty of hot dogs to
roast but you must bring
your own beverages and
other snacks.
Alcoholic drinks are okay,
but please remember that
this is a family oriented
event, anyone causing a
disturbance will not be
allowed to ride the
trails. Anyone who can
play guitar, fiddle, banjo
or harmonica, please bring
them and show off your
talent. Even if you do not
have any talent, the rest
of us will greatly
appreciate the humor in
your efforts. Maybe some
cowboy poetry would go
over well.
A word of caution to those
who wish to ride their own
horses. If you are not an
experienced rider or your
horse tends to spook at
shadows and things that
rustle, rattle or move in
the dark, then for your
own safety as well as
others please consider
riding in one of the
wagons. You will enjoy the
experience much more if
you are relaxed, not
having to worry about
getting thrown or having a
run away.

Nat’l. Finals and we
wish him the best of luck.
May all your
bronc’s be salty ones.

Annual Christmas Party
_____________________________
On
December 8th Roughstring
Ranch had its first annual
trail ride and Christmas
party. The weather did not cooperate for the trail ride part as it
was cold and wet, but we
still had a few hard core
riders brave enough to
rise to the challenge.
However the party
that night was a roaring
success and everyone
seemed to have a great
time, whether standing
around the fire chatting
with old and new friends
or learning a new dance
step.
Jeanelle introduced
a new line dance called
Roughstring Roundup and it
was a big hit with
everyone.
So when you see it
in the local clubs you
will know where it came
from.
Thanks
to all who participated.
Ray
and Jeanelle

Carolyn Hosmer and Christy
Dunsmore will be hosting a
beginning endurance/trail
ride clinic.
It will focus on
the logistics of an
endurance ride, but will
also be helpful for anyone
interested in just doing a
nice safe trail ride. Main
topics will be on
conditioning, trouble
signs, how a ride is run
and the importance of
electrolytes. Afterwards we will have a 12-mile mock endurance ride.
Roughstring Ranch will
donate a $25.00 prize
to the first student to
cross the finish line and
a $25.00 prize
to the student whose horse
finishes in The best
condition. Clinic is
limited to 15 riders.
The clinic will
begin at 9:00 Am and the ride will start at 1:00 PM. To register for this class please call Carolyn at 677-0877 or

Thanks
to Carolyn Hosmer for her
efforts in putting
together a TETRA sponsored
trail ride.
She has made
contact with TETRA
representatives and
someone from that
organization should be
visiting with us soon to
help us get started.
Hopefully we can have our
first ride in early spring
about the time the
Dogwoods begin to bloom.
