Al McCoy 1894-1966

Middleweight Champ 1914-1917

(copied from Jewishsports) Al McCoy was World Middleweight Champion from 1914 to 1917. He won his title at the age of 18 and was the first southpaw (lefthander) ever to win a World championship.

McCoy flattened champion George Chip in the first round of their title bout on April 7, 1914, to win the Middleweight crown. In an era when a champion could only lose his title by a knockout, McCoy battled through 46 fights. He lost the Middleweight title on November 14, 1917, on a sixth-round KO by Mike O’Dowd.
