Solly Kreiger 1909-1965
Middleweight Champ 1938-1939

(copied from Jewsinsports.org)
A member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Krieger was the world middleweight champion in 1938-39.
After a successful amateur career, where he was a Golden Gloves champion, Krieger turned professional in 1928, but did not get a title shot for 10 years. In November 1938, in his 91st professional fight, Krieger won the NBA (National Boxing Association) world middleweight title in a major upset when he defeated Al Hostak in 15-rounds.
Krieger's reign was short-lived though as he only defended it once, seven months later against Hostak; he was knocked out in the fourth-round knockout. Although he defeated Jewish fighter Herbie Katz in 1940, he did not get another title shot and retired in 1941. Krieger is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
