Battle Axe/Knife Rules & Regulation

Safety guidelines:

    1. Only the person throwing is allowed on the throwing line.

    2. Only one person throwing per target at a time.

    3. All spectators and competitors must remain behind the throwing line at all times.

    4. All Range rules apply.
Equipment Specifications

Axes should be of the Viking type, or any other “period” type axe. Cutting edge of the axe should be a minimum of 4”. (Small tomahawks are not permissible!)

Standard Competition Rules

    1. A cross section of a log at least 18” in diameter and 6-8” thick will be used as the back stop for the target.

    2. Targets will consist of five rings of 1” width each. The value of the rings from the center out being 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2.

    3. Competition will consist of 10 throws at a minimum distance of 15 feet.

    4. Accumulate the total of the ten throws for score.
The Wall

Another exciting competition is throwing axes at a wall. The wall is constructed of soft wood planks typically 2 X 12 X 8’. The wall typically is 7’ by 8’ and stoutly reinforced. (Assembly nails should not be used in target zone.)

Each competitor has three chances to stick his axe in the wall from a distance which allows his axe to turn one revolution. Those who stick advance to the next round. Each successive round adds an additional revolution to the axe throw. The competitor who throws his axe the most revolutions, with the least total attempts for the entire event, wins.
