In Europe during the Middle Ages society was largely governed by the Feudal System. Obviously, things have changed. The Royal Order of Chivalry’s organizational structure borrows somewhat from the feudal system while being firmly rooted in the twenty-first century. Below is a break down of the organization as a whole. The Realm The Realm as it is known in the ROC encompasses the continental United States. The President of the Royal Order of Chivalry nationally is the Crown Prince of the Realm and is also known as the Sovereign of the Realm. The Crown Prince is elected every four years by the national governing body (Magnum Councillium) which is made up of all peers in the entire nation. There are also other Officers in the Realm, and they make up the Sovereign’s Council. State Chapters The Realm is made up of State Chapters. There are currently several State Chapters: Wisconsin/Northern Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Alabama and Florida. Each State’s governing body (Council of Barons) elects the president of their State Chapter every two years and that person is then deemed the Head of State and his title will be tied to the total number members in his State Chapter. Each State Chapter answers directly to the Crown Prince. Shires Typically, all the Households in a County form a Shire. One Noble will be elected in the Shire to serve as the Shire-reeve, or Sheriff. Elections will typically be held every two years. The Sheriff will be the head of all Households in his Shire and his title will be tied to the total number members in his Shire. Each Shire answers directly to the Head of State. Households The most basic club unit is the Household. Just as in times of old, the Household is ruled by a lord. The lords were appointed by barons or such and were expected to fulfill their wishes. The head of Royal Order of Chivalry household is also appointed by a great leader, the local pastor. The local pastor is really the power and authority behind each Household. It is the job of the Head of the Household to harmonize the activities of the Royal Order of Chivalry with those of the local church. The Head of the Household title will be tied to the total number members in his Household. Each Household answers directly to the Sheriff of the Shire.
