The first group of jewish coins known to have been minted were minted in jerusalem in the middle half of the 4th century BCE. Those coins were inscribed YHD or YHIDH which is known to be the name of a persian province in the Holyland.
The next group of coins that can be attributed to the jews is the coins of the Hashmonaien dinasty from the middle of the 2nd century BCE and until the year 37BCE in which the Hashmonian Empire fell to the hands of Herod the great. the Herodian dinasty's rulers ruled from the year 37BCE to 56AD and have minted a great veraity of coins, and among them the coins of Agripas II are the most common.
the next time in which the jews minted their own coins was in the time of the Roman-Jewish war (64-73 AD). those coins are known to have been used as a propaganda tool by the leaders of the rebels to indicate to the people that their nation is independant once more.
the rebelion was short- lived and ceased just after 5 years.
the last group of jewish coins to be minted in the ancient world was those of Shimo'n Bar Cozeva, the so called "president of Israel", on the coins. what differs about his coins from the other jewish denominations is that the holy tools of the temple of jerusalem were depicted, even that this was a forbidden thing.
