Sometime in the late 1800's, Ernest Byar McNeill moved from Bracken County to Scott County. He opened a store in Delaplain, Kentucky, called "McNeill and Giles, General Merchandise." A photo of his delivery wagon has survived the years. Lula Souder was one of Ernest's customers.
Children of Ernest and Lula
Soon after Nell's birth, Ernest left the store to work for the Cincinnati, New Orleans and Texas Pacific (CNO&TP) railroad. He began his career in November, 1910, and retired in March, 1941. In 1916, Ernest was transferred to the railroad station at Ludlow, Kentucky. Aside from vacations using his railroad pass, Ernest and Lula would spend the rest of their lives in Northern Kentucky. The CNO&TP railroad would become the Southern Railway, and today it still exists as the Norfolk Southern.
